Singapore Flag

For the past few days as I was walking from my block to the bus stop every morning, I can't help but notice that not many families choose to hang the Singapore flag out in celebration of Singapore's bday this coming Sat. Maybe it just applies to the area I'm living in. I'm not sure for the other areas. Kinda sad eh, people not hanging out the flag.

So why do we hafta hang the flag out when the nation's b-day is drawing near? Other than a form of celebration what else? Anyone? [sounds as if I'm such a mountain tortoise, think even pri sch kids are more intelligent]
